Become a Democracy Champion

Voting is one of the most powerful ways we can have our say, but it’s not the only one. Becoming a Democracy Champion will help you and the people you support make your voices heard in even more ways.

You are more politically engaged than you likely realise. Politics is already part of our everyday lives. It’s the bus route we use, the support someone receives, what students are taught at school, the quality of the air we breathe and the celebration of who we are as a society.   

Voting is one of the most powerful ways we can have our say, but it’s not the only one. Becoming a Democracy Champion will help you and the people you support make your voices heard in even more ways. 

A Democracy Champion is someone who helps the people around them take part in democracy. We’re looking for our first 50 Democracy Champions.  

If you work with people with learning disabilities or autistic people, or the teams that support them, we want to hear from you. No prior political knowledge is required; you just need to believe that every voice matters.

Each Democracy Champion will make a difference in their own way. Whether that’s upskilling their colleagues, having an impartial conversation, supporting someone to register to vote, or delivering an activity. The time you give is completely up to you. Every activity counts and will make a difference. 

The people you support have exactly the same right to vote and take part in democracy as everyone else. A Democracy Champion can help turn this right into action.
