What is an MP?

An MP is an ordinary person who decides they want to become a politician and help run the country by working in Parliament. MP is short for Member of Parliament.

Their job is to represent the people who live in a certain area (called a constituency).

An MP can be part of a political party (such as Labour or Conservative). Or, they can be an independent candidate.
